Trivia[]

  • Although Cherry doesn't appear, his voice actor narrates the episode.
  • The names Kyōko and Rumiko are mentioned among the votes in the beginning in reference to Kyōko Otonashi of Maison Ikkoku and Rumiko Takahashi, the author of both Urusei Yatsura and Maison Ikkoku.
  • The top babes of Tomobiki High are revealed to have their own clubs of devoted fans and stalkers, much like Lum's Stormtroopers and by the end all of the main girls gain fans all across town.
    • Lum, aside from having Mendo and her four main Stormtroopers, is unsurprisingly shown to have a far bigger following at the school.
      • Unlike the other Tomobiki High girls, Lum's supporters even extend to Senpu Vo-Tech High School's entire male student body (which was implied as far back as episode 10 with students from other schools also being fans of Lum).
    • Ran has her "Sun's Golden Diapers" who are all pedophiles, presumably attracted to Ran because of her childish personality.
      • One of the members appears to be a generic grey zetan alien.
    • Sakura has the "Good Students Club" which is made up of honor students and members of the student council.
    • Ryunosuke has "Ryunosuke's Pessimistic Attention-Getters" who are made up of desperate anonymous male students, as well as some unorganized freshmen girls who fell for Ryunosuke when they thought she was a boy (some of which first appeared in the St. Valentine's special).
    • Shinobu has "Shinobu's Shadow Faction", a hostile group of male students who work in secret and during the episode joined forces with the female students of the "Anti-Ryunosuke League" who despised Ryunosuke's effect on the younger girls, and with their combined forces converted many of Rynosuke's female admirers into the "Girls Next Door - Shinobu Friends" club.
      • She would in a later episode gain Sōban and his gang from Butsumetsu High as her personal stalkers as well.
    • The twin idols Eiko and Keiko acquired their own club made up of former members of Lum and Ran's fans, but it is unknown if their club and popularity survived after they failed to reach the finals.
  • The manga had two additional nominees via Aiko and Yuko who were never mentioned in the anime.
  • Oshima makes a cameo appearance as a plush.
  • The No.1 babes from previous episodes return with their names revealed as well as the name of their alliance from Episode 64 which is called "The Rose Buds".
    • The No.1 babe of Butsumetsu High School appears, with her name revealed to be Kikyo Reika.
      • The No.3 and No.2 babes appeared in Episodes 10 and 64 and it is revealed that the top babes of Butsumetsu are in a civil war with each other.
    • The No.1 babes of Shakko High and Sanrinbō High return, having first appeared in Episode 64, with their names revealed to be Asano Yumi and Ogin the Ketsune Croquet.
    • Ogin the Ketsune Croquet would return in Episode 99 and be mentioned in Episode 105.
    • A new school and its No.1 babe are introduced, Nakamine Chiyoko (中峰ちえこ) of Taian Vo-Tech (大安商業高校) appears.
      • Taian Vo-Tech is stated to have 874 female students.
  • Tomobiki High School is revealed to not have an official No.1 Babe or babe ranking like the other four main schools do, which is what keeps The Rose Buds in a delicate balance of power.
    • The decision was of enough importance to not only attract the attention of rival schools, but the attention of people all across the land and cause feuds.
    • Despite no formal winner or ranking ever being made for Tomobiki High in the episode or in the manga, Lum, Ran, Sakura, Shinobu and Ryunosuke were the five finalists (and in the manga a tie between all five), technically making them the unranked top 5 babes of Tomobiki High.

Differences from the manga[]

  • The manga version is an arc of 5 chapters (from chapters 186 to 190) with the final contest not being cancelled:
    • Only chapter 186 is adapted in the first half of the episode, and the second half (while having some part of chapter 187 near the end) is anime-exclusive.
    • Chapters 187 to 190 compose the final contest which has been skipped.
  • In the manga, While talling names of who people are being called for, they mention the names Kyōko and Kozue, in reference to Kyōko Otonashi and Kozue Nanao of Maison Ikkoku.
